Amar Palace AMAR MAHAL PALACE
The Amar Mahal Palace a sight to behold, is on an eyrie overlooking the Tawi river. This grand palace, with sloping roofs and tall towers, so characteristic of continental castles, reminds one of France. The palace has been converted into a museum which also houses the city’s finest library of antique books and paintings. An entire series of miniatures on the epic Nal-Damayanti can be seen in the museum.


Patnitop PATNITOP
Patnitop is the most popular tourist spot of Jammu region. Located 112 kms from Jammu this famous hill resort is perched on a beautiful plateau, at an altitude of 2024 metres across which the Jammu-Srinagar Highway passes. It has lush green meadow and pine trees which resembles with Gulmarg. Patnitop offers beautiful picnic spots, peaceful walks and breathtaking views of the mountains cape of the Chenab basin.

Mansar Lake MANSAR LAKE
Situated 62 km from Jammu, Mansar Lake is a beautiful lake fringed by forest-covered hills, over a mile in length by half-a-mile in width. On the eastern bank of Mansar Lake there is a shrine dedicated to Sheshnag, a mythological snake with six heads. The shrine comprises a big boulder on which are placed a number of iron chains perhaps representing the small serpents waiting on the tutelary deity of the Sheshnag.

Sanasar SANASAR
129 Kms from Jammu and only 19 Kms from patnitop is Sanasar (2079 m), a satellite resort of Patnitop, with a cup-shaped meadow surrounded by gigantic conifers. A place for a quiet holiday, the meadow has now been developed as a golf course. There are several walks in the surrounding hills. The resort itself is ideal for paragliding, which is being promoted by the Tourism Department.

Bhaderwah BHADERWAH
Bhaderwah is a small valley-town in Doda, J&K. Bhaderwah valley is predominantly a mountainous torrid town situated 80 km from Batote. The festive mood in the district begins with the melting of snow in April and the sprouting of greenery all round. Kailash Yatra is another famous pilgrimage of the area which is considered an important Hindu pilgrimage. Popularly called Chhota-Kashmir, has bewitching natural beauty which enthrills any visitor.

Udhampur UDHAMPUR
The Udhampur city in Jammu and Kashmir has a significant place in the country. This is the place, where the famous Vaishno Devi shrine is located. It attracts lakhs of pilgrims all through the year. Udhampur is a rail link between Jammu and Udhampur, which makes the pilgrimage easy for those devotees, for whom the arduous bus journey from Jammu is difficult. The Major Fascinating Sights at Udhampur are Babore Temples, Krimchi Temples, Ghora Gali, Ramnagar Fort.

Katra KATRA
The town of Katra, which is close to Jammu, contains the Vaishno Devi shrine. Nestling on top of the Trikuta Hills at a height of 1700 m is the sacred cave shrine of Vaishno Devi, the mother goddess. At a distance of 48 km from Jammu, the cave is 30 m long and just 1.5 m high. At the end of the cave are shrines dedicated to the three forms of the mother goddess — Mahakali, Mahalakshmi and Mahasarasvati.

Akhnoor AKHNOOR
Akhnoor is a beautiful town situated at a distance of 32 km from Jammu. The Chenab river meets the plain in Akhnoor, just north-west of Jammu. This was originally the route to Srinagar in the Mughal era. Jehangir, who died on the way to Kashmir, was temporarily buried at Chingas. Akhnoor is also related with the legend of Soni-Mahiwal. This is a historic town with the ruins of the Indus-valley civilization spread along the river Chenab.

Mata Vaishno devi MATA VAISHNO DEVI

Raghunath Temple RAGHUNATH TEMPLE
Amongst the temples in Jammu, the Raghunath Temple takes pride of place being situated right in the heart of the city. This temple is situated at the city center and was built in 1857. Work on the temple was started by Maharaja Gulab Singh, founder of the Kingdom of Jammu and Kashmir, in 1835 AD and was completed by his son Maharaja Ranbir Singh in 1860 AD. The inner walls of the main temple are covered with gold sheet on three sides.

Purmandal Temple PURMANDAL
Pur Mandal, also known as Chota Kashi, is located 35 km from Jammu city. An ancient holy place, it has several temples of Shiva and other deities. On Shivratri, the town wears a festive look and for three days as people celebrate the marriage of Lord Shiva to Goddess Parvati. The people of Jammu also come out in their full best to celebrate Shivratri at Peer Khoh Cave Temple, the Ranbireshwar Temple and the Panjbhaktar Temple.

Bawe Wali Mata BAWE WALI MATA (BAHU FORT)
The Bahu fort, which also serves as a religious temple is situated about 5 km from Jammu city on a rock face on the left bank of the river Tawi. This is perhaps the oldest fort and edifice in the city. Constructed originally by Raja Bahulochan over 3,000 years ago, the existing Fort was more recently improved and rebuilt by Dogra rulers. There is a temple dedicated to the Goddess Kali inside the fort popularly known as Bawe wali Mata.

Shiv Khori SHIV KHORI
The cave shrine of Shivkhori, situated in District Reasi of Jammu and Kashmir state, depicts the natural formation of shivlingum. It is one of the most venerated cave shrines of Lord Shiva in the region. The Holy cave is more than 150 mts long & houses 4 feet high Svayambhu Lingum, which constantly baths in a milky lime fluid dripping from the ceiling. The cave is full of natural impression and images of various Hindu Deities and full of divine feelings.

Ranbireshwar Temple RANBIRESHWAR TEMPLE
The Ranbireshwar Temple is an important itinerary of the Jammu and Kashmir pilgrim tourism. The temple is situated on the Shalimar Road in the city of Jammu. Built in the 19th century, the magnificent temple is flanked throughout the year by the devotees who gather in large numbers to offer prayers to the reigning deity of the temple.

WILDLIFE IN JAMMU
 
Nandini Wildlife Sanctuary NANDINI WILDLIFE SANCTUARY
Located on the National Highway, Nandini Wildlife Sanctuary is around 28 km away from Jammu. The park is famous for both animals and birds as well. The main mammal species that are found here are 8 which include, leopard, wild boars, rhesus monkeys, grey langur and many more. To spot them, it is best to come in months from September to March.


Surinsar Mansar Wildlife Sanctuary SURINSAR MANSAR WILDLIFE SANCTUARY
The Surinsar Mansar Wildlife Sanctuary is flanked by two beautiful lakes on each corner. The Sanctuary derived its name from the rivers and is located 56 km from the city of Jammu. From a wide variety of mammals to the beautiful avian species, the Sanctuary has it all. The best time to come to the Sanctuary is from March to May.

Kishtwar High Altitude National Park KISHTWAR HIGH ALTITUDE NATIONAL PARK
The varied topography of the Kishtwar High Altitude National Park makes it a home to a variety of wildlife species. Covering an area of 400 sq km, the Park is located at an elevation ranging between 1,700 to 4,800 m above sea level. The Park is rich in both vegetation and wildlife. Cedrus deodara, Pinus gerardiana, Pinus wallichiana, Juglans regia are a few tree species to name. Some of the wildlife species sighted here are the musk deer, Himalayan black and brown bear, hangul, markhor, goral, langur and leopard.

Ramnagar Wildlife Sanctuary RAMNAGAR WILDLIFE SANCTUARY
Sprawling over an area of 31 sq km, Ramnagar Wildlife Sanctuary provides shelter to several wildlife species such as barking deer, nilgai, wild boar, rhesus monkey etc. Some of the avian species found here are Indian Mynah, blue rock pigeon, peafowl, red jungle fowl, jungle crow, golden oriole, white cheeked bulbul etc. The most propitious time to visit this wildlife sanctuary for sighting mammals is from September to March and for birds is from March to May. The sanctuary is located only 6 km from the city of Jammu.
